Our Story

We started the bakery in 2016 when our crops were hailed out. Though we had enough insurance coverage to pay all the farm bills, it was not enough for weekly groceries. This is when I started selling cinnamon buns and a few breads at local farmers’ markets in Camrose and Wetaskiwin. Soon, we were going to 7 different markets with many more requesting us.

Nadine has always had a desire to make things from scratch. That being said, everything is made from scratch… well, almost everything. There are a couple of things like the graham crumbs we use for our graham crusts (we do make the crusts for our cream pies from scratch) or the cherry pie filling we use in our Black Forest cupcakes/cakes. Everything is made by hand - hand rolled, hand shaped, etc.  Nadine has tried many recipes over the years but it always comes down making her own because the recipes just never measured up to her standards.

At The Farmhouse Bakery, we take "farm to table" very seriously. We currently mill our own flour using the wheat and spelt grown on our family farm in Bittern Lake. On bake days, we mill those grains in order to provide the freshest flour for the baking.

Making homemade breads at The Farmhouse Bakery in Camrose Alberta

In 2019 we built our commercial bakery on our farm. At that time we thought the new kitchen was so huge compared to my small kitchen we were using. I thought we would never fill the space… well, in 2022 we had to expand. We built an addition onto the bakery. It did not take long and we outgrew our space, bringing us to our current adventure of moving to Camrose. We knew we needed to expand and required more equipment. We were looking at a few different options for making that happen on the farm when out of the blue my realtor contacted me to tell me she had a location she thought I should look at (I actually thought she was calling to order bread). Little did I know what was about to transpire. We now run our Camrose store, and are at Bountiful Farmers' Market in Edmonton every weekend and are so excited for what the future holds!
